The period of the Wild West is often considered to be between 1865 and 1895. This was a pivotal time in Washington state, and this region bore witness to the sputtering end of the wildness of the west. From the death of notorious outlaw Harry Tracy to rumors of Butch Cassidy faking his own death to retire in Spokane, the stage was set to witness the decline of one of our country’s most romanticized eras. Join us as Chris Staudinger of Pretty Gritty Tours reveals what happened not far from where we are today.
Chris Staudinger has been a tour guide in Tacoma for seven years, covering the underrepresented history of the Pacific Northwest. He spent over ten years as a travel writer and an investigative travel journalist for Expedia, USA Today, and the BBC, before establishing Pretty Gritty Tours in Tacoma. Chris’s walking tours, videos, and talks have become one of the most popular and delightful ways to discover the local history of Washington state.
