The Portland Zoo Railway was founded in 1958, one year before the opening of the Portland Zoo. The streamlined Zooliner symbolized the optimism of the post-war era, and the steam-powered Oregon Locomotive No. 1 added to the excitement. Historian Melissa Darby traces the history of the railway, including some famous passengers.
