Why is Lewis County nicknamed the “Mother of All Counties”? Sandra Crowell, author of The Land Called Lewis, answers this and more, as she shares historical moments in Lewis County and the Pacific Northwest, from the first Native people, the establishment of the first European settlement in Washington, the passage of the railroad, the logging boom, the clash of labor and veterans, and the changing face of the county today.

Sandra Crowell is the author of The Land Called Lewis and The Ravaged Forest: A Native Woman’s Journey to Justice—the narrative biography of Helen (Mitchell) Sanders who spearheaded a landmark US Supreme Court case that changed Native resource management. Sandra is editor and co-author of two other books on Washington and Idaho history.
